VecViz on OpenBB Filter: Dec2025 review/ Jan2026 Update

Strong December 2025 performance driven by P/E Ratio and V-Score criteria

If purchased at the closing price of 12/10/251, the average of the 19 tickers in our 12/9/ 2025 close-based OpenBB filter returned 7.43% through the 1/12/26 close.  This compares favorably with both the SPY, with a price return of 1.10% for the same period, and the average of the 130 tickers in the screen, which came in at 3.45%.

See below for a comparison of the distribution of tickers that met the filtered criteria (orange) and the population they were drawn from (blue).

Given 130 tickers with a mean return of 3.45% and a standard deviation of returns across tickers of 9.73%, the odds of choosing 19 tickers with an average return of 7.43% at random is just 2.4%. So what drove the performance? The performance of the filter was driven by the P/E Ratio criteria, followed by the V-Score.

Filter refreshed as of 1/12/26 close generates 16 tickers

We applied the same filter criteria to the same ticker universe discussed above this morning, to 1/12/26 closing data. Sixteen tickers of the 130 met the criteria, described and listed below (down from 19 tickers meeting the filter criteria the month before, fwtw):

  • Two are “tech” oriented companies (META and CSCO).
  • Four are repeats from last month: META, VNO, USB, CMA
  • Four are regional banks (USB, CMA, ZION, TFC)
  • Two are travel/leisure related (EXPE and CCL)
  • Two are industrial metals oriented (BHP, KALU)
  • Two are healthcare related (AMGN, HCA)
  • A Homebuilder (LEN), Auto-parts supplier (AZO), a REIT (VNO), and a Telecom (T) round out the group.

The tickers meeting the filter’s criteria have less momentum and lower P/E ratios and higher V-Scores than the average (or even median) ticker considered:

The number of tickers meeting each element of the screening criteria is given below. The P/E ratio criteria is most stringent, followed by the V-Score:
